A fire that started in the attic of a Burbank apartment building caused more than $80,000 in damage and left two people with minor injuries, Burbank fire officials said.

The fire began in the rear unit of an apartment building in the 600 block of Rosemary Lane about 9:20 Friday night, a dispatcher with the Burbank Fire Department said. Firefighters arrived to see heavy smoke pouring from the rear apartment of the four-unit building.

The blaze was extinguished in about an hour.

The fire apparently started in the attic of the rear apartment and then spread to the other apartments through a common attic, causing heavy roof damage in two units, officials said.

A firefighter suffered a twisted knee and a resident suffered smoke inhalation. Both were treated at St. Joseph Medical Center and released.

Two families that were left homeless by the fire received assistance from American Red Cross workers.

By Saturday afternoon, investigators had not determined the cause of the fire.
