COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Gets Some Help in Beating OCC

Rancho Santiago, with the help of seven errors by Orange Coast, beat the Pirates, 18-7, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at OCC.

It was the fifth victory in the last seven conference games for Rancho Santiago (19-8, 7-6). The loss dropped Orange Coast (15-12, 7-4) out of a first-place tie with Cypress.

Chad Henderson had a three-run double in the first for Rancho Santiago, which led, 10-4, after three innings. Teammate Ryan Fullerton had four hits and drove in three runs. Jamie Estrada had a home run and double and drove in five for the Dons.

Nick Valencia had a home run and drove in two runs for Orange Coast.

In Orange Empire Conference baseball:

Cypress 5, Golden West 0--Mike Cosgrove (six innings) and Josh Negro (three innings) combined on a six-hit shutout for Cypress (21-5-1, 8-3). Corey Dean-Yeager had two hits, including a seventh-inning home run for the Chargers.

Garrett Vitale had two hits, including a double for Golden West (9-19, 3-10).

In Orange Empire Conference tennis:

Golden West 7, Orange Coast 2--Leila Ryan won at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 0-6, 6-3, and Michelle Turner won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, as host Golden West (10-1, 8-0) closed in on the conference title.

The Rustlers have a two-match lead with four left but already have beaten second-place Orange Coast twice.
