PREP ROUNDUP : Fowers Sinks Putt for Par in Playoff to Give Aliso Niguel a Victory

Matt Fowers of Aliso Niguel sank a six-foot putt for par on the first playoff hole to clinch a victory over Laguna Hills in a Pacific Coast League golf match Thursday at El Niguel Country Club.

After nine holes, the Wolverines were even with Laguna Hills at 238 strokes, setting up Fowers’ winning putt. Aliso Niguel (6-9, 3-3) ended two strokes better in the playoff, 25-23.

Chris Hess was the medalist for Laguna Hills (2-3 in league) with a seven-over-par 43. Robert Pavlovich shot nine-over 45 to lead Aliso Niguel.

In another Pacific Coast League match:

University 185, Estancia 187--Bill Bodensteiner shot two-under 33 and Lee Orr shot par 35 to lead University (8-4, 5-1) at Costa Mesa CC. Pete Krutzik and Mike Perry each shot 36 for Estancia (5-1 in league).

In the Garden Grove League:

Servite 206, Tustin 214--Jimmy Lee’s three-under 33 was not enough to help Tustin at Tustin Ranch. Jeff McGraw had 37 for Servite.

In the Sea View League:

El Toro 209, Corona del Mar 211--Jesse Hayden scored a four-over 40 at El Toro Marine Base to lead El Toro (10-2, 5-0).

Santa Margarita 186, Woodbridge 200--Tucker Brown shot one under par and Kelly Craig shot par at Coto de Caza for Santa Margarita (11-0, 5-0).

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 306, Mater Dei 307--Chris Cox shot four-over 56 over 14 holes at Santa Ana CC for Dana Hills (3-3 in league). Scott Jordan shot 57 for Mater Dei (3-2 in league).

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 412, Edison 431--Perry Dickey was the medalist for Huntington Beach (6-1, 4-1), with a 78 at Sea Cliff.

Los Alamitos 199, Fountain Valley 214--Mark Stokes had the low round for Los Alamitos (4-0), with a 37 at Mile Square.

In Garden Grove League boys’ swimming:

Garden Grove 119, Rancho Alamitos 46--Sophomore Josh Segelson won the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, and swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays for Garden Grove (5-1, 5-0), and teammate Eric Henninger won the 500 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, and swam on the 200 medley relay team.
