COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Mission’s Vallafana a Big Hit in 8-Run 8th Inning

Pinch-hitter Jose Vallafana had a double and a three-run triple in an eight-run eighth inning, leading the Mission College baseball team to a come-from-behind 13-8 upset of Ventura in a Western State Conference interdivisional game Thursday at Mission.

John Toven added a grand slam for Mission (8-22, 4-10 in conference play) in the eighth after a run-scoring single in the third. Robert Ballester (4-5) allowed four earned runs and 10 hits in his fourth complete game.

Tim Rosales’ two-run homer with two out in the sixth had given the Pirates (15-10-1, 9-7) a 4-3 lead.

Moorpark 6, Glendale 3--Aaron Whitley hit a bases-loaded triple and Ryan Briggs added three hits for the visiting Raiders (21-9, 11-5) in a WSC interdivisional game. Adrian Harris and Britten Pond each had two hits for Moorpark.

Antelope Valley 16, Barstow 2--Chris Tapia drove in six runs with a two-run home run, a two-run double and a bases-loaded single for host Antelope Valley (13-13, 8-9) in a Foothill Conference game.

Cuesta 7, Pierce 5--Bob Highland hit a bases-loaded infield single with two out in the top of the 10th to drive in the go-ahead run for Cuesta in a WSC game at Pierce (16-14, 12-4).

SOFTBALL

UC San Diego 3, Cal Lutheran 2; Cal Lutheran 15, Point Loma Nazarene 3--Aimee Snider had three hits, including a home run, for the Regals (20-7) against Point Loma in the second game of pool play in the UC San Diego tournament, which was called after four innings because of a time limit.
