Fire Injures 2, Forces Traffic to Be Diverted
Traffic into the San Fernando Valley via Laurel Canyon Boulevard was delayed Tuesday morning because of a house fire that injured two people, caused $425,000 in damage and shut down the northbound lanes for more than two hours, authorities said.
The fire in Mount Olympus started about 7:40 a.m. Four dozen firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.
A 45-year-old man who jumped from a second-story window suffered broken ribs and a broken arm and was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. A woman, about 30 years old, suffered minor smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Tuesday evening.
In the wake of the fire, Laurel Canyon between Mulholland and Lookout Mountain drives was closed between 9:40 and 11:40 a.m., authorities said. Traffic was diverted to Coldwater Canyon Avenue and the Hollywood Freeway.
