PREP TRACK AND FIELD / MT. SAC RELAYS : Times Please Dana Hills’ Harrison

For the second consecutive week, Dana Hills sprinter Bryan Harrison wasn’t the first to the finish line but was ecstatic with the result.

Harrison, a sophomore, lowered his personal- and county-best marks Friday in the 100 and 200 meters at the 37th annual Mt. SAC relays.

Harrison sprinted 10.64 seconds in the 100 and 21.30 in the 200, both good for second place.

“It was a hot heat . . . a very hot heat,” Harrison said of the 200 meters, which was aided by a 2.33 meters-per-second tail wind, just over the allowable 2.00.

“I was kind of nervous because I couldn’t see (Marques) Holiwell because he was inside of me on the turn. I just decided to not worry and run hard.” West Bakersfield’s Holiwell won the 100 meters earlier in the day.

Brethren Christian’s Steve Michels long jumped 15 feet 7 inches to finish second in the event.

Teammate Brandon Pacheco was edged at the finish line by Palmdale’s Antonio Arce in the 1,600 meters. Pacheco ran in 4:15.78, the county’s best time this season.

The senior also won the 800 meters in 1:55.40.

Esperanza senior Anton Hector, who has signed a letter of intent to play football at Texas, won his heat of the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, lowering his county-leading time to 38.42.

Edison junior Kerry O’Bric won the triple jump (37-5 1/4).

The Huntington Beach distance medley team of Travis Fisher, Chris Jackson, Jess Strutzel and Tony Trueba held off late-charging Corona to win in a time of 10:28.67.
