COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Long Beach Routs UC Santa Barbara
Jason Minici had four hits and drove in four runs and Jason Hodges had three hits and three runs batted in to help Long Beach State to a 15-4 victory over host UC Santa Barbara in a Big West Conference baseball game Sunday.
Minici, from Rancho Santiago College and Irvine High, had a double and also scored two runs. It was the second consecutive game in which he drove in four runs.
Hodges, from Cypress College and Esperanza High, hit his third home run and also scored three times for Long Beach (23-19-1, 10-5).
Long Beach won two of three games in the series but is three games behind first-place Cal State Fullerton.
Wynter Phoenix had two home runs for UC Santa Barbara (18-20, 5-10).
In a Big West Conference softball game:
Cal State Fullerton 8, Utah State 0 (5, mercy)--Jennifer Mortensen pitched a five-hitter for visiting Fullerton (32-13, 12-6), the fourth-ranked team in the nation. Fullerton won three of four games at Utah State to move into third place.
Chris Zboril had a two-run home run in the first inning for the Titans. It was her sixth of the season.
