HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Canyon Ends Hart’s 15-Game Win Streak

Canyon High’s Cowboys rode into Hart, chalked up 12 hits and ended the Indians’ 15-game winning streak Friday with a 7-3 Foothill League victory.

Mike Bench, who had five strikeouts and six walks, held the Indians (15-7, 7-1) to four hits and blanked the Indians after a three-run second inning.

Bench, who went two for three, scored once and drove in two runs for Canyon (9-11, 3-5) with a double in the second. Brett Lamprey also drove in two runs for the Cowboys.

Eric Horvat hit a two-run homer for Hart.

Simi Valley 9, Channel Islands 0--Jeff Michael had two hits, including a double, drove in two runs and scored two in a Marmonte League game for the Pioneers.

Curtis Miller added two hits, including a home run, for league-leading Simi Valley (16-6, 8-2), and Danny Schwartz had two hits and scored two runs.

Billy Castonguay (3-2) went six innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven.

Rio Mesa 10, Oxnard 4--Daniel Martinez and Albert Ambriz hit three-run homers in a Channel League game as the Spartans (15-4, 8-2) stretched their winning streak to 10 games.

Jason McAuliffe hit a home run for Oxnard (5-14, 1-9).

Ventura 11, San Marcos 8--The Cougars (11-8, 8-2) lost most of a 9-0 lead but held on for a Channel League victory at San Marcos.

Kim Stallings had four hits and scored three runs, Shawn Wenger had three hits, including a home run, drove in two runs and scored two, and Monty Moritz added two hits, including a triple, and six runs batted in for the Cougars.

Calabasas 8, Moorpark 1--Coyotes’ starter Brandon Cohen (7-0) went the distance, striking out five and walking two as Calabasas (19-0, 11-0) beat the Musketeers (7-10, 6-5) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.

The Coyotes’ Billy Hoover had a three-run home run and finished with four RBIs. Josh Harris added three hits.

Mary Star 5, Bell-Jeff 0--The Stars snapped the Guards’ 11-game winning streak and pulled into a one-game lead in the Santa Fe League with a victory at Schafer Field in Burbank.

David Quintero had two hits for Bell-Jeff (14-5, 7-2) while John Pawlik (6-2) took the loss.

Oak Park 10, St. Bonaventure 6--Brian McMullen had two hits, including a fourth-inning two-run home run for the Eagles (11-5, 8-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at St. Bonaventure.

Jake Brown had two hits and drove in three runs for St. Bonaventure (7-7, 3-5).

Littlerock 7, Ridgecrest Burroughs 2--Robert Roberts had three hits and knocked in three runs, and Ricardo Lopez added two hits for the Lobos (8-15, 3-3) in a Golden League game at Burroughs.

Alemany 9, St. Francis 3--Rudy Pantoja (5-0) pitched his third complete game, striking out six, walking two and allowing a pair of earned runs as the Indians (12-9, 7-1) beat St. Francis in a Mission League game.

Alemany’s Doug Segraves and Todd Hoover each had two hits and two RBIs.

Chaminade 10, Harvard-Westlake 3--Ryan Hamill hit two home runs and drove in three runs, and Scott Shubeck added two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles (11-9, 4-5) in a Mission League game at Chaminade.

Loyola 2, Notre Dame 0--The Cubs beat the Knights (10-8-1) in a Mission League game at Notre Dame. Andy Lutz (0-2) took the loss.

Royal 9, Agoura 5--Matt Pitstick, who had two hits, had a three-run triple in the fourth, a run-scoring double and scored twice, led the Highlanders (14-8, 6-4) to a Marmonte League victory at Royal.

Matt Gershawn hit a solo home run in the fifth for the Chargers.

Thousand Oaks 5, Newbury Park 1--Mike Lauer hit a three-run home run in a four-run 15th inning and the Lancers (14-8, 6-4) beat the Panthers (7-14, 3-7) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Ryan Lane, who came on in the 11th, got the victory. Newbury Park starter Mike Amundson lasted nine innings.

Kes Andersen had four hits for the Panthers.

L.A. Baptist 21, Marshall Fundamental 2--Marc Lacson, John Devirian and Seth Barkley led the Knights to an Alpha League victory at L.A. Baptist (16-2, 7-0).

Lacson went three for four, scored twice and had four RBIs. Devirian scored four times, had a double and a triple. Barkley added a solo homer and three RBIs.

Campbell Hall 10, Whitney 6--Helemanu Wallace had four hits, including a two-run homer in a five-run fifth to give the Vikings their first Delphic League victory in school history.
