COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast Women Trail Palomar at Conference Swim Meet

The Orange Coast women’s swim team, which has won 11 consecutive Orange Empire Conference titles, trailed Palomar by 111 points after the first day of the two-day meet Friday at Saddleback.
OCC’s Erin Snow won the 50-yard backstroke in 28.63 seconds and teammate Brandy Wright won the 100-yard individual medley in 1:05.52.
Palomar leads with 311 points, followed by the Pirates with 200 and Grossmont with 199.
In the Orange Empire Conference men’s swimming championships:
Saddleback in third--The Gauchos are in third place behind Palomar and Grossmont. Breno Nogueira won the 200 individual medley in 1:59.7 for Saddleback. The OCC men’s team has won seven consecutive titles.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Cypress 7, Orange Coast 0--Freshman Heidi Schmidt (15-2) pitched a two-hitter, striking out seven and walking one for Cypress, which scored six runs in the first inning. Rockie Brieg, Christa Saindon and Stephanie Bloomingdale each had two hits for the Chargers (44-7, 18-2).
Fullerton 5, Golden West 0--Jill Otto (12-5) pitched a one-hitter, striking out nine and Jennifer Johnson drove in two runs for Fullerton (26-11, 14-6).
Rancho Santiago 5, Saddleback 2--Carol Lizalde doubled and tripled for Rancho Santiago (28-10, 18-2), which stayed even with Cypress for first place.
In the fourth round of the Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament:
Saddleback doubles teams advance--Second-seeded John France and J.P. Labarrie of Saddleback defeated Grossmont’s Carlos Ayres and Casey Manning, 6-2, 6-2, and Saddleback’s Billy Casas and Brian Matek beat Danny Diaz and Jeff Thomsen of Golden West, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to today’s quarterfinals.
In singles, Saddleback’s David McMahon, ranked 15th in the state, had two match points in a second-set tiebreaker before losing to Brian Faigle of Diablo Valley, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
