ROUNDUP : Oak Park Has High Time, Wins Tri-Valley Title

Brody Winn won the high jump and Ryan Aherne placed first in the 110-meter high hurdles to lead the Oak Park High boys to the Tri-Valley League track and field championship at Santa Barbara City College on Thursday.

Winn, the Ventura County champion, cleared 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump and Aherne timed 16.58 seconds in the high hurdles.

The Eagles had 77 points, followed by Fillmore (66), Carpinteria (54) and St. Bonaventure (33).

Ryan McDonnell was a triple winner for St. Bonaventure, timing 11.21 in the 100 and 24.11 in the 200, and long-jumping 20-7.

Fillmore, led by double winners Erika Arana and Jodie Foy, won the girls’ meet with 103 points, followed by Carpinteria (67), St. Bonaventure (41) and Oak Park (20).

Pacific League finals--Phil Gonzalez of Crescenta Valley won the boys’ 1,600 and 3,200 meters in the meet at Arcadia High.

Gonzalez timed a personal best of 4:21.6 in the 1,600 to turn back Hoover junior Felipe Montoro (4:35.3) and ran 9:33.5 in the 3,200 to defeat Hoover sophomore David Lopez (9:46.6).

Mike Khodabakhshyan won the 800 in 1:59.92 to give Crescenta Valley a distance sweep.

Nancy Ekeke of Glendale won the 400 (58.26), Christina Jones of Glendale took the shotput (34-11), Hali Davis of Hoover won the high jump (5-1) and Emily Berth of Crescenta Valley took the discus (93-0) in the girls’ meet.

Valley Pac-8 Conference prelims--Ryan Jones of North Hollywood had the top qualifying times in the 100 meters, 110 high hurdles and the 300 intermediates in the meet at Birmingham High.

Jones timed 11.1 in the 100, 14.7 in the highs and 39.2 in the intermediates.

Lucy Gasparian of Monroe had the top qualifying time in the girls’ 400 meters with a mark of 60.2

HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING

Foothill League finals--It was a good day for Indians as the Hart girls won their 13th consecutive league title and the Burroughs boys won for the second year in a row.

The Hart girls’ 200-yard medley relay team of Amy Sexton, Monica Oleksyn, Becky Skyler and Erin Wallace broke their league record of 1:57.60 with a 1:55.02.

Oleksyn, who set a Division II record in the 100 breaststroke at the Southern Section championships in 1994, won the event in 1:08.18.

Freshman Heather Boylan of Saugus set a league record in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.87, and also won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.81.

In the boys’ finals, John Won of Burbank won the 500 freestyle (4:47.94) and the 200 individual medley (1:59.02).
