HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Monroe Shocks Chatsworth With Four in 7th

Tenth-seeded Monroe High rallied for four runs in the seventh inning to upset seventh-seeded Chatsworth, 9-7, Tuesday in a City Section 4-A Division first-round playoff game at Chatsworth.

Kelley Hall drove in two runs with a single to tie the score, 7-7. Hall scored the go-ahead run on a single by Lisa Hartley, who finished with three hits.

Sharleen Rubin had three hits for Chatsworth (12-4), who played without pitcher Parisa Plant, sidelined with a injured shoulder.

Sylmar 6, Carson 2--Michelle Rodriguez had two hits and drove in two runs, and Cherise Espinosa (9-5) pitched a three-hitter for the Spartans (11-10) in a first-round 4-A game.

Sylmar second baseman Cristina Mendoza had an unassisted double play in the sixth inning and made two leaping catches in the seventh.

Kennedy 12, Birmingham 0--Sophomore Sandra Durazo had 10 strikeouts and no walks, pitching a three-hitter for the Golden Cougars (15-4) in a first-round 4-A game.

Durazo homered, doubled and singled. Dana McCall drove in four runs with a single, a double and a triple, and Kellie Morman added four runs batted in.

Birmingham finished 5-10.

Kennedy will play third-seeded San Pedro in the second round.

Palisades 18, Poly 1--The Parrots (14-6) fell in a first-round 3-A game.

Thousand Oaks 3, Simi Valley 1--Chara Smith hit a single to score Ashley Bergin and Justine Rachlin with two out in the top of the eighth to give the Lancers (14-8-1, 9-4) a Marmonte League victory at Simi Valley (12-14, 6-7).

Jennifer Sharron (8-3) pitched a three-hitter, struck out six and walked one for Thousand Oaks.

Newbury Park 4, Royal 0--Jann Thorpe’s double and Melissa Brecht’s triple keyed a three-run fifth inning for the Panthers (17-8, 9-4) in a Marmonte League game. Newbury Park remained in a tie with Thousand Oaks for third place in the league.

Kristi Fox (13-5) pitched a four-hitter for Newbury Park.

Hoover 19, Muir 0--Tina Kinney and Carla De La Torre combined on a no-hitter and allowed one baserunner for the Tornadoes (15-11, 6-3) in a Pacific League game shortened to 4 1/2 innings.

Crescenta Valley 17, Pasadena 0--Becca Baldridge had three hits and drove in four runs for the Falcons (20-3, 8-1) in a Pacific League game called after five innings.

Hope Robertshaw had three hits and two RBIs a tie for the league title.

La Canada 1, Temple City 0--Tricia Walton led off the fourth inning with a single, took second on a bunt and scored on a single by Lindsay Parker to give the Spartans (19-2, 11-1) the Rio Hondo League championship. Parker pitched a one-hitter, striking out 14 and walking none.

Buena 11, Oxnard 0--Nicole Greathouse pitched her sixth no-hitter, striking out 11 and walking two in a Channel League game called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Michelle Cordes doubled and singled for the Bulldogs (21-3-1, 13-0).

Paraclete 9, Kern Valley 0--Ruth Anderson had two hits and two stolen bases for Paraclete (19-6, 8-1) in a High Desert League game. Vicki McKay (13-5) struck out five and walked one.

Saugus 9, Burbank 0--Nicole Giordano pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks for the Centurions (21-4, 11-0) in a Foothill League game. Giordano also had two hits.

Calabasas 6, Nordhoff 0--Keyna Bell hit her eighth home run in the fourth inning as the Coyotes (14-4, 11-3) trounced the Rangers (3-16, 3-11) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Melissa Krolik (13-4) struck out seven and walked one.

La Reina 10, St. Bonaventure 0--Shane Anderson had four hits, three RBIs and scored four runs for the Regents (19-5, 9-0) at La Reina.

Jennifer Baltruzak (13-4) pitched four shutout innings, extending her Tri-Valley League scoreless innings streak to 51.

Fillmore 10, Carpinteria 0--Freshmen Esther Gurrola and Sally Alvarado each tripled for the Flashes (13-5, 6-3) in a Tri-Valley League game.

L.A. Baptist 16, Marshall 0--Megan Petersen had three hits, drove in three runs and scored three, and Lisa Munoz added three hits and three RBIs for the Knights (6-11, 6-4) in an Alpha League game at L.A. Baptist.

Cherie Girard (2-6) and Peterson combined on a one-hitter.

Western Christian 3, Village Christian 1--Jackie Aranda gave up two hits and one walk with eight strikeouts but the Fighting Lancers (18-5, 7-4) took advantage of five errors in an Alpha League game.

Jessie Leivo had two hits and drove in a third-inning run for Village Christian (13-6, 7-3).

Ventura 7, Santa Barbara 2--The Cougars (5-12, 5-8) were led by Karissa Tidwell’s two-run homer in the fourth inning and run-scoring single in the first in a Channel League game at Ventura.

Hueneme 1, Rio Mesa 0--The Vikings (11-9, 7-6) beat the Spartans (9-16, 7-6) to pull into a tie for the third and final playoff spot in the Channel League.

Oak Park 3, Bishop Diego 1--Christy Argast went three for three with a RBI triple and two runs scored to help the Eagles (13-9, 6-3) down the Cardinals (7-9, 2-7) in a Tri-Valley League game at Bishop Diego.

Palmdale 6, Antelope Valley 5--Kristi DiMarco’s seventh-inning home run gave the Falcons (12-10, 4-5) a Golden League victory.

Highland 21, Littlerock 3--Kristi Globig had a home run for the Bulldogs (14-13, 6-3) in a Golden League victory over the Lobos (2-22, 0-9) at Highland.

Hart 1, Burroughs 0--Christina Chao scored in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out single by Tracy Clark in a Foothill League game at Hart.

Mary Colleran (18-6) struck out eight and walked one and Jeannie Norhagen collected two hits for the Indians (19-7, 7-3).

L.A. Lutheran 15, Ribet 4--The Lions (11-5, 10-0) won their fourth consecutive Heritage League title behind Stacie Vaughan’s three hits and three RBIs at Ribet Academy.

Viewpoint 26, South Bay Lutheran 4--Summer Davis was five for five and drove in five runs and Merinoush Yazdanyar was four for four with three RBIs for Viewpoint (11-6, 9-3) in a Heritage League game.
