ANAHEIM : City Expected to OK Paramedic, Fire Fees

As part of a comprehensive plan to overhaul the area adjacent to Disneyland, the City Council Tuesday is expected to approve new fees aimed at maintaining fire and paramedic services around the theme park.

The money raised from the one-time fees would be used to buy $2.3 million in new fire and paramedic equipment. City officials say that equipment is needed to cope with higher demands created by new development.

The revenue proposal is the city’s latest move in an ambitious $172.5-million revitalization program for the city’s tourism area.

Under the fee proposal, new hotels and motels would pay $90 per unit, while commercial and residential projects would pay $150 per 1,000 square feet.

The bulk of the money would be earmarked for refurbishing a fire station within the special zone called the Anaheim Resort Area. The triangular area is bounded by the Santa Ana Freeway on the northeast, Orangewood Avenue on the south and Walnut Street on the west.

The council gave initial approval to the fees Tuesday.
