NEWBURY PARK : Hit-and-Run Driver Who Hit Boy Sought
Ventura County sheriff’s deputies on Monday were searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and injured a 3-year-old in Newbury Park as he and his mother were crossing the street.
Maria Mercado and her son, Quadalupe, were leaving a neighbor’s house on Calle Diamonte about 8 p.m. Sunday when they stepped between two automobiles parked at the curb.
Mercado was holding a bag of groceries and Quadalupe was standing in front of her, police said.
Quadalupe stepped out into traffic and was hit by a small, tan or gray late-model compact car. The driver stopped about 100 yards from the scene of the accident, paused momentarily and left, police said.
Quadalupe was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center after the accident with minor injuries and was released that evening.
