GLENDALE : Witnesses Sought in Injury Accident

Share

Glendale police are seeking witnesses to a May 12 traffic accident in which a driver allegedly swerved across the center line of a street, seriously injuring a woman in another car.

The man, who tried to escape on foot, attempted to take away a police officer’s gun as he was being arrested, authorities said.

Mark Stephen Guerrero, 29, of Glendale was arraigned in Glendale Superior Court on Tuesday on felony charges of drunk driving, hit-and-run, assault on a police officer and attempted murder.

But investigators said that witnesses are needed to help determine exactly how the accident occurred.

Police believe Guerrero was driving eastbound on Wilson Avenue in a white Volkswagen Jetta at 11:19 p.m. when he ran a red light and entered the intersection at Harvey Drive, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a car, injuring its 24-year-old female driver. Guerrero’s car was badly damaged and he tried to flee but was chased and caught by several bystanders just a few blocks away on Eagledale Drive, according to a police report.

The attempted murder charges stem from Guerrero’s alleged effort to take away an officer’s service revolver, police said.

Police said they are especially interested in speaking to a motorcycle rider who was preparing to make a left turn at the intersection when the accident occurred. The motorcyclist’s identity is unknown.

Police are asking anyone with information on the accident to call (818) 548-3130.
