Moshiri, Homberger Sign Letters of Intent

Two Edison High girls’ track and field athletes have signed letters of intent to attend four-year schools, Coach Karen O’Bric announced Thursday.

Suzanne Moshiri, one of the school’s top sprinters, has signed with Samford (Ala.). Moshiri ran on the 400-meter relay team that advanced to the Southern Section Division I finals Saturday and is part of the school-record-holding 800 relay.

Elyse Homberger will run cross-country and track at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She has a season-best of 11 minutes 18.3 seconds in the 3,200 meters and was a member of Edison’s state-ranked cross-country team for three years.

San Clemente midfielder Troy Wenger has signed to play soccer for Biola, the university announced.

Wenger was a All-South Coast League honorable mention this past season.

Chad Fister, who started three years on Sonora’s varsity basketball team and was an All-Freeway League selection his junior and senior seasons, will attend Brigham Young University and walk on to the basketball team this fall, his father, Gerald Fister, said Thursday.

Fister helped Sonora to three consecutive league championships and finished his career as the school’s fifth-leading scorer with 963 points.

Two Cal State Fullerton softball players were named to the NCAA All-West Region first team selected by the region’s coaches.

Chris Zboril was chosen as the second baseman and Senetha Thomas as the designated player. Titan first baseman Rose Garces was chosen for the second team along with Long Beach State’s Kristyn Frady, who was chosen as a utility player.

Saddleback College swim Coach Flip Darr was chosen California community college men’s swimming coach of the year by the state coaches association. Darr, who has been coaching at Saddleback for 22 years, led the Gauchos to a 5-2 season and a sixth-place finish in the State championships.

Darr will be honored at a banquet June 10 in Oakland.
