IRVINE — More than 1,300 students are expected to take part in the Eighth Annual Irvine Junior Games on Sunday, a fund-raiser for child-care scholarships.
The annual event is coordinated by the nonprofit Irvine Children’s Fund in partnership with the Irvine Child Care Project and the Irvine Unified School District.
About 4,000 people are expected at the event, which is open to all Irvine Unified students in fourth through eighth grades. The games will begin with a 10 a.m. opening ceremony at Irvine Stadium, continuing all day until 7 p.m.
The Irvine Children’s Fund provides child-care scholarships for 90 children from families that either live or work in the city. The scholarships are for child-care services offered at 15 schools throughout the district.
