SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Friday night was a good one for defending champions at Ventura Raceway--three of the four feature races were won by 1994 points leaders.

Ryan Cole of Santa Maria took the 15-lap Modified main, Richard Webster of Camarillo went wire to wire in the 15-lap Mini Stock feature, and Paul Moore of Oak View also led all the way to win his first 20-lap Street Stock feature since the 1994 opener.

Cole, who started fifth in a six-car field, worked his way through the pack and took the lead from Ventura’s Jim Keeter on the 11th lap.

“The track was real good on top and we had the car set up to go up there,” Cole said.

“It was just a matter of running laps until [Keeter] made a mistake.”

Webster said he had trouble maintaining his speed, due in part to two caution periods.

In the 15-lap Pony Stock main, Tracy Jewett of Oxnard took her second feature victory by outrunning James Brown of Oxnard.

Brown, who started on the pole, seemed to be headed for victory until he blew a tire as Jewett attempted an outside pass with two laps remaining.
