Track and Field/Triple Jump
O’Connor’s triple jump of 39 feet 7 1/2 in the Aztecs’ first league meet of the season stood as the county’s best mark until the State meet. O’Connor jumped 39-10 1/4 Friday in the preliminary round, then Saturday became the first county female to break the 40-foot barrier. O’Connor fouled on her first jump, then jumped 40-5 3/4, more than half a foot better than the record set by Mission Viejo’s Lisa Fager in 1989. O’Connor’s next jump was 40-6 1/2, more than a foot better than Darnesha Griffith of Trabuco Hills.
Softball
Marcy Crouch
* Marina, senior. Pitched a one-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Westlake Village Westlake in the Division I semifinals and a four-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Mater Dei in the final.
Christy Robitaille
* Woodbridge, freshman. Pitched a four-hitter as the Warriors beat Lakewood, 4-3, in eight innings in the Division II championship game.
Track and Field
Ashley Bethel
* Mission Viejo, freshman. Lowered her county record in the 100-meter hurdles to 14.19 seconds, finishing third in the State meet. Jumped 18 feet 10 3/4 inches in the long jump to finish fifth.
Courtney Pugmire
* Esperanza, senior. Ran a personal-best 4 minutes 50.47 seconds to finish second in the 1,600 meters at the State meet. Finished third in the 3,200 in 10:38.40.
