HOT AWARDS: When the Los Angeles Fire Department hands out 67 medals of valor Thursday, all but two awards will go to rescue workers involved in the Northridge earthquake. “This is the most ever awarded at one time,” Fire Capt. Leonard Thompson said. Among those honored: 15 rescuers at the Northridge Meadows Apartments and 14 who toiled at the Northridge Fashion Center.

C-SPAN CURE: A Canyon Country firm is offering an alternative for C-SPAN junkies. The new quarterly, “Guide to Your Members of Congress,” details local lawmakers’ votes on critical issues. A year’s subscription runs $24.95. . . . Kurt L. Hayden, Track Record Inc. president, said the guide “can help ordinary citizens become informed participants in the American political process in 15 minutes.”

ANGEL’S RISE: Darren Angel, above, was 13 when he first beat his dad at golf. Now, the 18-year-old Granada Hills star is clubbing his way toward the pros. The three-time City Section champ finishes his high school career today, then it’s on to Arizona State. But he’s already learned the basics. “I’ve always been able to out-hit everybody,” Angel said (C6).

CELLULAR GROWTH: To homeowners, they are the cancer of convenience: cellular phone antennas spreading throughout the Valley as the number of wireless phone users increases. But enough is enough, say some homeowners. . . . Concern that the antennas decrease property values and send out harmful rays is causing homeowners and cellular phone companies to clash as never before (B1).

NO K.O.: A short while ago, former U. S. amateur heavyweight champion John Bray of Van Nuys appeared down for the count. . . . After Bray pulled out of a Warner Center boxing match last month, an angry promoter got him suspended by California athletic officials. . . . But now Bray is on Thursday’s card at a Nevada casino (C6).
