HUNTINGTON BEACH — A plastics manufacturing plant in an industrial zone caught fire Wednesday evening, bringing about two dozen firefighters to the site, authorities said.
Flames were reported at 5:16 p.m. at Del Craft Plastics in the 15000 block of Chemical Lane by an employee who was alone and closing the plant.
Firefighters from Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Westminster responded and forced their way into the building. They controlled the fire within 17 minutes, said Huntington Beach Battalion Chief Duane Olson.
The fire apparently originated in the building’s loft, where it was contained by the sprinkler system. The cause of fire is still under investigation, but Olson said it might have been ignited by an electrical short.
Del Craft Plastics primarily manufacturers Fiberglas parts for cars and boats, officials said.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage, mainly to cabinets, walls and ceilings, officials said.
