GLENDALE : 3 Community Parties Planned for Summer

Share

For the second year in a row, three blocks in the heart of downtown Glendale will be closed for a series of three community block parties this summer, city officials said.

The street parties will begin with a cruise night July 22, a 1950s-themed event with more than 250 classic cars and entertainment by Buddy Holly’s original band, The Crickets, and other rockabilly bands.

Aug. 19 will be country music night, and the final event Sept. 9 will feature classic rock bands, including Robbie Krieger of the Doors, the Strawberry Alarm Clock, and Big Brother and the Holding Company, which was Janis Joplin’s band.

City officials said the parties, which drew several thousand people last summer, are aimed at attracting people into the downtown area on weekends and giving businesses and restaurants there more exposure.

Admission to the events is free. For information, call (818) 548-4844.
