SEASON AT A GLANCE: The Notre Dame-bound Arce placed fifth in the 3,200 meters and sixth in the 1,600 in the State championships at Cerritos College on Saturday. The region leader in the 1,600 (4 minutes 12.05 seconds) and the No. 3-ranked performer in the 3,200 (9:08.29), Arce won both events in the Southern Section Division I finals before finishing fourth in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200 in the Southern Section Masters Meet. He also won the 1,600 and 3,200 in the Pasadena Games in March and the 1,600 in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays in April.

THE REST OF THE TEAM:

Jeff Fischer, Thousand Oaks, Sr., placed second in the 1,600 and 3,200 in the Southern Section Division I championships and 10th in the 3,200 in the State meet. Dale Fowle, Saugus, Sr., won the Southern Section Division I title in the high jump and placed sixth in the State finals. Phil Gonzalez, Crescenta Valley, Sr., placed seventh in the 3,200 in the State meet and was third in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200 in the Southern Section Division I finals. Ramsey Jay, Ventura, Sr., placed a disappointing ninth in the 400 in the State championships, but led the region in that event (47.59) and ranked second in the 100 (10.83) and 200 (21.65). Ronney Jenkins, Hueneme, Jr., finished a disappointing seventh in the long jump in the State meet, but spanned 23-1 or further in nine meets, topped by a 24-1 effort that moved him into a tie for seventh on the all-time region list. Ryan Jones, North Hollywood, Sr., won the City Section title in the 110 high hurdles and placed second in the 300 intermediates. Charles Lee, Cleveland, Sr., the City 200 champion, moved to eighth on the all-time region lists in the 100 (10.4) and 200 (21.44). Brett Strahan, Hart, Sr., placed a disappointing ninth in the 1,600 in the State championships, but nonetheless advanced to the State finals for the third year in a row. Steve Williams, San Fernando, Sr., finished a disappointing sixth in the triple jump in the State championships after winning the City title with a state-leading 49-1 to move to fifth on the all-time region list.
