Jeff King, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ only consistent run producer, went on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained wrist, and third baseman Kevin Young was recalled from triple-A Calgary.

Young, batting .356 at Calgary after twice flopping as a Pirate regular, was in the lineup Saturday night against San Diego.

King was enjoying perhaps his best all-around season with a .287 average, six homers and 35 RBIs when he injured his left wrist while sliding Thursday against the Dodgers.
