1995 LOS ANGELES TIMES : All-Valley Softball Team

Tom Parker (Coach)

LA CANADA

La Canada won the Division IV championship with Parker at the helm. Parker, whose career record is 64-10, has led the Spartans to Rio Hondo League titles in each of his three years.

Tashie Aguinaga (SS)

ANTELOPE VALLEY

The sophomore was one of the most-feared hitters in the Golden League, finishing with a .505 average, seven doubles, five triples and three home runs. Aguinaga led the Antelopes with 19 RBIs.

Elizabeth Barnes (SS)

CRESCENTA VALLEY

Barnes batted .343 with a team-high five home runs and was solid defensively as the Falcons cruised to a Pacific League championship. Barnes will attend Central Michigan on scholarship.

Kara Campbell (1B)

LA CANADA

Campbell provided the offensive punch to complement the pitching of Lindsay Parker. The senior batted .350 with 16 RBIs and led the Division IV champion Spartans with 12 stolen bases.

Sophie Contreraz (RHP)

ALEMANY

Contreraz didn’t pile up the strikeouts but had plenty of victories. With Contreraz (25-2) posting an 0.35 earned-run average in 181 innings, Alemany rolled to a Mission League championship.

Jessica Creith (RHP)

GRANADA HILLS

Creith finished 15-5 with an 0.31 ERA and helped the Highlanders upset defending City Section champion El Camino Real in the 4-A semifinals. Creith, a junior, also batted .459 with 23 RBIs.

Chris Gill (3B)

SAUGUS

Gill, a junior and a repeat Times All-Valley selection, led the area in doubles with 11, batted .385, and was second in the area among large-school players with 37 RBIs for the Centurions.

Nicole Giordano (OF)

SAUGUS

A sophomore center fielder, Giordano was the area’s premier leadoff hitter. She batted .491, stole 18 bases, led the area with 52 hits and led all large school players in runs with 40.

Tami Jones (RHP)

EL CAMINO REAL

Jones, a junior who had not pitched before this season, emerged with a 15-2 record and an ERA of 0.37. She also played shortstop, hit .487 and led the Conquistadores to the City 4-A semifinals.

Tina Kinney (RHP)

HOOVER

Kinney, a junior who proved to be a potent double threat, had 194 strikeouts and an 0.81 ERA in 181 innings. She batted a team-high .391 with 36 hits, seven doubles and 17 RBIs.

Kelli Kranz (SS)

SAUGUS

Kranz is bound for Southwest Texas State after batting .459 with 45 hits, 33 runs, five triples and two home runs. She led all players from large schools with 38 RBIs and made only one error.

Melissa Krolik (RHP)

CALABASAS

Krolik, who has signed to play at New Mexico, is the Frontier League player of the year. She finished 13-5 with an 0.33 ERA and struck out 132 in 107 2/3 innings. She also batted .577 with 15 RBIs.

Jamie Moore (C)

ALEMANY

A Times All-Valley selection for the second consecutive season, Moore batted .421 with a team-high five doubles and 17 RBIs. A senior, Moore is among the area’s top defensive catchers.

Lindsay Parker (RHP)

LA CANADA

Parker, a Fresno State-bound senior who went 25-3 and led La Canada to the Division VI championship, closed out a four-year career with a 73-12 record, 29 no-hitters and an 0.11 ERA.

Area All-Stars Invited to The Times’ Awards Ceremony

Players selected to the All-Valley and All-Ventura County baseball and softball first teams are invited along with their parents and coaches to The Times’ awards breakfast Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills. The guest speaker is former major league slugger Reggie Smith, the hitting instructor for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
