BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Wild Dibble Put on Waivers for Release
Reliever Rob Dibble was placed on waivers by the Chicago White Sox, who want to give him his unconditional release. Dibble, who signed with Chicago as a free agent Feb. 27, was 0-1 with one save and a 6.28 ERA in 16 games this year. He’d given up seven hits in 14 1/3 innings, but walked 27 batters.

Outfielder Deion Sanders was activated from the disabled list by the Cincinnati Reds. Sanders sprained his left ankle May 31 while attempting to steal a base with the Reds leading by six runs. . . . The Boston Red Sox promoted right-handed pitcher Jeff Suppan, 20, from double-A Trenton to start today against the Kansas City Royals. The team also called up Trenton pitching coach Al Nipper, who has been with Suppan since he was drafted in the third round in 1993 out of Crespi High.
