The University of Alabama and the Southeastern Conference have reopened an investigation into claims by a tire merchant that he did financial favors for Crimson Tide players.
The NCAA is awaiting the outcome of the joint review, which comes with the Alabama football program already on probation for three years because of unrelated rules violations.
The Associated Press reported earlier this month that Boyd Sutherland, owner of Bojo’s Mag Wheels and Accessories in Birmingham, claimed he has sold thousands of dollars worth of merchandise to current and former Alabama football and basketball players on credit without being paid.

Derrick Stewart, a starting junior cornerback for Arizona, was indicted Tuesday by a Pima County Grand Jury on a charge of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon and on a charge of causing serious injury in the May 21 attack on Terrence McIntosh, 23, an airman at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
Coach Dick Tomey said the school has suspended Stewart pending further investigation.
