Jerris McPhail’s 14-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter capped East Carolina’s rally from a 21-point deficit and gave the Pirates a 27-24 victory over No. 22 Syracuse on Saturday at Syracuse, N.Y.

Marcus Crandell threw for a career-high 392 yards and four touchdown passes, three in the second half, as East Carolina (1-1) won its second consecutive game in the Carrier Dome against the Orangemen (1-1).
