Moody Beats Reduced Field in Accident-Marred Event
Randy Moody of Ventura had no problem working his way through a reduced field and a shortened race because of accidents to win the Sprint Car feature Saturday night at Ventura Raceway.
Originally scheduled for 30 laps, the race was reduced to 15 after three of nine starters were eliminated in separate accidents at the start.
Brian King of Victorville flipped his car on the first attempt to start the race, then Danny Ent of Big Bear Lake did the same on the restart.
After harried race officials ordered a single-file start, Tim Thoms of Norwalk flipped on the third restart, forcing officials to shorten the race.
Moody recorded his seventh victory in International Motor Contest Assn. competition, and his fifth at Ventura.
In the 25-lap Mini Sprint main event, Rick Carstens of Fresno went wire to wire for the victory.
James Weston of Goleta earned his second career Modified victory, winning the 20-lap feature. Only eight cars were on hand for the race because the IMCA is holding a national Modified race in Iowa this weekend.
Joel Remmenga of Camarillo earned his second career victory, winning the 20-lap Street Stock main event, taking the lead on the eighth lap.
