COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Lynch’s Goal Lifts Titans in Soccer
Charlie Lynch scored with about two minutes left to lift Cal State Fullerton to a 3-2 victory over Gonzaga in the Titan Classic men’s soccer tournament Sunday at Titan Stadium.
Alfred Partida had the assist on Lynch’s goal, which came six minutes after Joe DiGiamarino scored to tie it, 2-2. Ben Hooper had the assist on the tying goal.
Tom Helmer had Fullerton’s other goal. The Titans are 4-2. Tampa beat San Diego State, 5-2, also Sunday to win the tournament. Tampa beat Fullerton, 4-3, in overtime Friday.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
UC Irvine 1, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0 (0T)--Don Icardo scored in the 118th minute for host Irvine (2-3). Matthew Goldman had six saves for the Anteaters.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
San Francisco State 2, Chapman 1--Kim Wyer scored in the first half for host Chapman (2-3).
In nonconference water polo:
California 6, UC Irvine 3--Pat Cochran scored two first-half goals as host Cal opened a 5-0 lead. Matt Maunz had two goals for Irvine, which is ranked fifth in the nation. Cal is second.
