COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Tailback Depth Becomes a Problem
Coach Terry Donahue knows that Karim Abdul-Jabbar will be at tailback as long as his legs keep churning in Saturday’s game against Fresno State.
Beyond that, Donahue can’t be sure of anything.
Skip Hicks continues to struggle after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last month. Thursday was another rough practice day for Hicks.
“He can play in a game,” Donahue said. “But then, the next seven to 10 days, he can’t walk up steps.”
With Saturday’s game the last opportunity for Hicks to play before a decision must be made on applying for a redshirt season, Donahue expects Hicks to at least test the knee.
Another tailback, James Milliner, is suffering from flu-like symptoms.
That means the backup spot behind Abdul-Jabbar on Saturday could fall to junior Thaddeus Massey.

Receiver Avery Anderson, who pulled a hamstring Monday, re-injured it Thursday and is not expected to play Saturday.
