St. Margaret’s revived passing game paced a 29-0 victory over Calvary Chapel of Downey Friday night. Quarterback Mike Heydenrych completed 15 of 23 passes for 329 yard and three touchdowns as the Tartans (1-5, 1-0) picked up their first victory of the season.

“[The receivers] came through for us tonight,” Heydenrych said. “We had problems with our passing game the first couple of games, but tonight they really stepped up.”

St Margaret’s opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when Tom Sire rushed in from the one-yard line. In the second half, Heydenrych threw to Reza Asgari for a 24-yard touchdown. Asgari also scored on a 20-yard pass play in the fourth quarter.

The big play of the game was an 85-yard pass play to Justin Jameson, who broke two tackles en route to the end zone.

“At first when I threw it, I didn’t think that it would account for much, but Justin has great speed and beat them,” Heydenrych said.
