Santa Monica 37, Ventura 23--Quarterback Chris Kasteler completed 18 of 33 for 403 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Corsairs (4-1-1, 4-1-1) in a WSC interdivisional game at Ventura High.

Santa Monica running back John Houston rushed for 195 yards in 16 carries and scored twice.

Bryan Ortiz rushed for 52 yards in 12 carries and scored one touchdown for the Pirates (1-4, 1-4). Jerry Hicks kicked field goals of 24, 34, and 21 yards.

Desert 31, Antelope Valley 23--Antelope Valley came up inches short in a Foothill Conference game at Desert.

C.J. Fagan’s diving catch on fourth down left him inside the one-yard line with three seconds to play.

Trailing by eight points, Antelope Valley drove from its 37 to Desert’s two.

On fourth down, quarterback Shawn Sharp threw a pass to Fagan on the left sideline. Fagan, who was in the end zone when the ball was thrown, made a diving catch but landed just shy of the goal line.

Desert (5-1, 4-0) built a 31-7 halftime lead before Antelope Valley (2-4, 1-3) rallied. The Marauders scored on a blocked punt, a short run and a field goal to pull within eight points late in the fourth quarter.
