LOS ALAMITOS : At Stake Tonight Is Berth in Champion of Champions
Nine of the country’s top older quarter horses will be vying for the last remaining berth in the Champion of Champions in tonight’s ninth race at Los Alamitos, the $125,000 Los Alamitos Invitational Championship.
Two in the field, Refrigerator and Avison, are guaranteed berths in the Champion of Champions, but world champion Down With Debt is among the contenders hoping to earn her way in tonight. Refrigerator is in by virtue of his Champion of Champions victory last year, and Avison got in by winning the Vessels Maturity earlier this year.
Another contender is leading trainer Blane Schvaneveldt’s My Debut, who is three for three at Los Alamitos this year. Rounding out the field are Time To Lead, Dream A Secret, Sigs First Call, Dash On Mitch and Seals.
