Santa Paula 20, Santa Clara 7--Willie Zavala ran six yards for the Cardinals’ clinching touchdown on a bootleg midway through the fourth quarter.
Santa Paula (2-5, 1-1) took a 14-0 halftime lead but Santa Clara (1-6, 0-2) scored midway through the third quarter on a 25-yard pass play from Adrian Maciel to Andy Super. Maciel has thrown nine touchdown passes this season, all to Super.
Super caught 13 passes for 148 yards and the touchdown. Maciel completed 15 of 27 passes but had three intercepted.
Zavala connected with his brother, Robert, on a 12-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to give Santa Paula a 14-0 lead.
Santa Paula’s first touchdown came on a one-yard sneak by Zavala, which capped an 80-yard drive in the first quarter.
