ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Offense Kicks Into Gear, 8-1

Cal Lutheran clinched a share of its fifth consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer title with an 8-1 victory Saturday over Occidental (4-8-1, 4-5-1 in SCIAC play).

Margaret Vestal and Holly Roepke each scored twice for the host Regals (14-2-2, 10-0-1).

The Regals can win the title outright with a victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps next Sunday.

In another women’s soccer match:

CS Northridge 2, CS Los Angeles 0--Becky Andrews scored in the 64th minute and Kristen Johnson scored in the 75th as the Matadors (6-8-2) defeated the Golden Eagles (1-15-1) in a nonconference match at Northridge.

Johnson had an assist on Andrews’ goal, and Heather Schou assisted on Johnson’s. Matador goalie Dawn Lenard stopped two shots.

Northridge sweeper Marrica Pichaikul was ejected from the match and will be ineligible for the Matadors’ home match Wednesday against UCLA.

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 3, Whittier 1--The Kingsmen (10-6-1, 8-0) clinched at least a tie for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with the victory at Cal Lutheran.

Aluede Okokhere Jan Hammervold and Matt Romeo scored for Cal Lutheran. Goalie Ryan Kaufman stopped four shots.

The Master’s 4, Christian Heritage 0--Goalie Kris Bage recorded his fourth shutout of the season, and Bryan Lee had a goal and two assists for the Mustangs in a nonconference match at Master’s.

Lucas Principe, Spencer Erwin and Timo Scheunemann also scored for the Mustangs (8-8).

Christian Heritage is 5-7-2.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

San Diego d. Pepperdine, 16-14, 14-16, 15-9, 15-12--LaManda Mounts had 21 kills and 12 digs and Liz Gunsaulus added 17 kills and 13 digs for the Toreros (12-7, 5-2) in a West Coast Conference match at San Diego.

Pepperdine (15-7, 5-2) was led by Nicole Sanderson with 18 kills and eight digs and Ann Windes with 10 kills and 13 digs.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Highland Invitational--Canyon reached the final of the tournament before losing to Mojave, 16-14. The Cowboys defeated Hesperia Christian, 15-10, to reach the title match.

Highland suffered a 15-2 loss to Hesperia Christian in the third-place match after dropping a 15-10 decision to Mojave in the semifinals.
