COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Saddleback Sinks in Finals of Tournament

Citrus College outscored Saddleback in the third period to open a four-goal lead and went on to win, 17-13, and capture the championship game of the Saddleback water polo tournament Saturday at Saddleback College.

Saddleback got strong offensive performances from Tetsuro Ono (five goals) and Cameron Sharp (three), but couldn’t come back after the third quarter.

Fullerton defeated Palomar, 9-6, in the consolation final. Chris Piersall scored four goals and Peter Lange had seven saves for the Hornets (14-8-2).

Earlier, Ono had four goals to help Saddleback defeat Fullerton, 13-11. Fullerton’s Piersall and Ian Ching each had four goals in the loss.

In the Cuesta water polo tournament:

Golden West 17, West Valley 2--Jeremy Pope scored four goals and Jeff Hamilton added three as Golden West dominated the pool-play match, scoring 10 goals in the first quarter.

Earlier, Golden West (22-3-1) defeated Diablo Valley, 15-5, getting four goals from Tommy Anderson and three goals from Hamilton.

At the Santa Barbara women’s volleyball tournament:

Golden West advances--Freshman Mary Luhrs, from San Clemente High, had 17 kills in a 15-3, 12-15, 15-2, 15-5 victory over Cuesta in the second round. Earlier, Tina Bowman had eight kills in a 15-1, 15-11, 15-9 victory over Pierce.
