LOCAL NOTES : Chapman Gets NCAA Berth in Men’s Soccer

The Chapman men’s soccer team will compete in the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 1985. The Panthers will play Colorado College in the first round of the Division III tournament Saturday at UC San Diego.

The Panthers (15-3), top-ranked in the West Region for the last month, received the No. 2 seeding behind host UC San Diego (10-5-2). San Diego plays St. Thomas (Minn.) in Saturday’s other first-round game. The winners will play Sunday. The regional champion advances to the tournament quarterfinals.

The Chapman women’s team, which lost to La Verne, 2-1, Sunday, did not qualify for the playoffs.

The Southern California College women’s soccer team will play host to Azusa Pacific in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference playoffs at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The winner plays at top-seeded Westmont in the conference final Saturday with the winner advancing to a four-team regional Nov. 10-11. The Vanguards are 11-7. Azusa Pacific is 6-12.
