Redlands Arrowhead Christian scored four touchdowns in the first half and came away with a 38-13 victory over host Southern California Christian Saturday night.

“We just got beat by a better football team,” said Southern California Christian Coach Darin Ownes, a former assistant at Arrowhead Christian.

Arrowhead Christian (9-0, 4-0) scored on four of its first five drives and had no problems with the Flames (4-5, 1-3). The Eagles led the way in total offense, outgaining the Flames, 311-65, in the first half. Arrowhead Christian finished with 376 yards to 155 for Southern California Christian.

Two touchdown runs by fullback Taylor Mast and a scoring run by quarterback Clint Toth gave Arrowhead Christian a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter. Toth also threw a 31-yard scoring pass to running back Charlee Brown with 1:39 left in the first half, increasing its lead to 30-0.

A 66-yard kickoff return by junior Jason Piacenza led to the Flames’ lone touchdown in the first half. Two plays later, junior running back Jeremy Smith scored from one yard with 1:16 remaining in the half to cut Arrowhead Christian’s lead to 30-6. But the Flames got no closer.

Mast scored his third touchdown with 2:33 left in the third quarter to cap the Eagles’ scoring.

The Flames got a three-yard scoring run by running back David Enda with 2:04 left.

The loss put Southern California Christian’s playoff hopes in jeopardy. The Flames will need a victory Saturday at Hesperia Christian to have a chance to qualify.
