ROUNDUP : CLU Advances to Volleyball Final

Tracy Little had 15 kills and 19 digs to lead the top-seeded Cal Lutheran women’s volleyball team to a 15-8, 15-7, 13-15, 15-7 victory over fourth-seeded Chapman in an NCAA Division III West regional semifinal at Rimac Arena at UC San Diego.

In the final Cal Lutheran will face UC San Diego, which defeated Occidental, 15-9, 15-11, 15-6.

The Regals (24-2), ranked fifth in the nation in the American Volleyball Coaches Assn., poll, had a hitting percentage of .165 while holding Chapman (13-13) to .075.

Shawna Parkinson had 21 kills and 13 digs for Chapman.

Cal Lutheran had a balanced offense. Jennifer Pappas contributed 13 kills, Karen Kasper added 12 and Darcy White finished with 10.

CS Sacramento d. CS Northridge, 15-8, 15-6, 17-15--Carrie Kapfenberg had 19 kills and eight digs, but the visiting Matadors were swept by the Hornets for the second time this season in a nonconference match.

Crystal Newquist added 12 kills and 13 digs for Northridge (2-26), which also received 42 assists and 17 digs from Heather Hofmans.

Jill Haas had 19 kills and 18 assists for Sacramento (25-3).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Ventura 93, Golden West 65--Adria Sneed had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Tori Anderson added 19 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and five assists for the Pirates (1-0) in a first-round game at the Chaffey tournament.

Marina Torres had 16 points, nine assists and seven steals, and April Garrish came off the bench to add 15 points and nine rebounds for Ventura.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Pepperdine 164, CS Bakersfield 134--Beth Fisk won the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events and swam legs on both victorious relay teams in a nonconference dual meet at Pepperdine.

Cathy Carone won both backstroke events and the 200 individual medley. She also anchored the Waves’ winning 400 freestyle relay team

Fisk timed 24.90 and 54.87 in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Carone clocked 59.76 in the 100 backstroke, 2:05.40 in the 200 backstroke and 2:12.99 in the individual medley.

Jennifer Maxwell won both the one- and three-meter diving competition for the Waves.

WATER POLO

Santa Ynez 22, Newbury Park 11--Paul Prins had six goals, Tim Rhodes added three and goalie Chris Adams had 11 saves for Santa Ynez (15-8) in a Southern Section Division IV first-round playoff match at Cuesta College.

Righetti 21, Agoura 11--Jason Smither scored eight goals and Noah Bookman added two for the Chargers (10-14), who dropped a first-round Division IV playoff match at Sinshimer Park in San Luis Obispo. Goalie Aaron Lefitz had 11 saves for Agoura.
