Shaun Malcom rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns and top-seeded Covina had 472 yards of total offense as the Colts defeated Troy, 49-9, in a first-round Division VII playoff game Friday.

Covina improved to 11-0; Troy ended its season 6-5. Covina plays Manhattan Beach Mira Costa in the second round.

Colts’ quarterback Michael Ulrich completed seven passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns. The first of his touchdown passes went to Mike Barnett for 47 yards five minutes into the game as Covina led 7-0.

Malcom scored on a three-yard run with 10 seconds left in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead.

Troy got its first points on a safety after a blocked punt in the end zone with 8 minutes 34 seconds left in the half.

Kyion Grayes, who rushed for 107 yards in 19 carries, scored on a one-yard run, with 6:47 left in the half to make the score 14-9.

Freddie Knight scored on a two-yard run with 2:03 left as the Colts, who had 240 yards in the first half, built a 21-9 halftime lead.
