VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS
Harvard-Westlake d. Bishop Montgomery, 12-15, 15-11, 15-5, 16-14--Christine Boble had 21 kills and Lesley Coben added 12 as the Wolverines won the Southern Section Division II title over top-seeded Bishop Montgomery at Cypress College.
Setter Jenni Kriste had 61 assists as the Wolverines rallied after losing the first game, falling behind, 9-3, in the second, and 13-10 in the fourth.
“It’s so satisfying,” Kriste said. “We knew we were going to have to play hard and we did.”
Harvard-Westlake (22-1) avenged its only loss of the season.
Going into the final, Bishop Montgomery (17-2) swept every opponent--including the Wolverines earlier in the season--and was riding a 17-match winning streak since losing to Mira Costa.
“Once we got that second game, I knew we were going to win it,” Coben said.
The Wolverines pulled out the second game after Coben served 10 consecutive points for a 13-9 lead.
Coben made 10 digs and Malaika Naulls had 11 kills and five blocks.
