An 18-year-old man staying at the Interfaith Shelter for the homeless was arrested in connection with the gang-beating of a 20-year-old man in Idaho, officials said Thursday.

Travis Jon McIntier of Boise was beaten and later thrown off a 150-foot cliff at Lucky Peak Lake in Idaho on Nov. 21, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Tom Boylan said.

Three people were arrested in Ada County, Idaho. Idaho officials told Costa Mesa police that a fourth suspect was staying at a homeless shelter in Costa Mesa, and on Tuesday, Audi Helms, who had been living there for several days, was arrested.

Helms’ arrest led officials to the final two suspects, Richard Allen Dunn, 25, and his girlfriend, Melissa Friedly, 18, both of Idaho. The two were located in Big Bear City and booked into San Bernardino County Jail.

The six suspects are believed to be members of the same street gang in Idaho, Boylan said.

Police said both Helms’ and Dunn’s mothers were living in Costa Mesa motels, which may be why they came to Southern California.

The victim also had been arrested in Costa Mesa in 1994 on suspicion of breaking a motel window.
