SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Nicole Greathouse scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Eboni Conley added 19 points as the Buena High girls’ basketball team reclaimed the championship of its own tournament with a 77-48 victory over Alemany on Saturday night at Buena.

Buena (4-0) had lost the tournament title to Alemany a year ago after winning the event 17 of the first 18 years.

In the rematch, though, there was little danger of a repeat loss to the Indians after the first few minutes of the second quarter.

Alemany (4-1) led, 19-17, with 5 minutes 25 seconds remaining in the second quarter, but the Indians did not score in the next 3:25.

Buena took advantage with a 13-0 run that put the Bulldogs in front for good, 30-19.

Buena led by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter.

Alemany was hampered by the absence of standout center Carly Funicello, who was in foul trouble and sat out nearly all of the second and third quarters.

She did not foul out, but was lifted from the game with just over four minutes remaining and finished with 12 points.
