Price, Davis Get Top City Awards : Football: Sylmar back is named 4-A player of the year for the second consecutive season. Reseda lineman is named best player in 3-A division.
Sylmar High’s Durell Price and Reseda’s Ennis Davis have received the City Section’s top football honors.
Price, a 6-foot-2 220-pound running back, was selected 4-A Division player of the year for the second consecutive season, and Davis, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound two-way lineman who led Reseda to a 3-A title, was voted best 3-A player.
The award for Price, who has made recruiting trips to Ohio State and Colorado, marks the fourth year in a row a Sylmar running back has garnered the City’s top honor. Former Sylmar tailback Tyrone Crenshaw, who is playing at Michigan State, received the distinction in 1992 and ’93.
Despite Sylmar’s 22-21 loss to Narbonne in the quarterfinals, Price and his City-high 36 touchdowns received the nod over Dorsey’s Nail Diggs, a 6-4, 215-pound senior linebacker. Dorsey defeated San Pedro, 10-7, in the 4-A title game.
For Davis, who will take recruiting trips to USC and Iowa State in January, the honor was as unexpected as it was gratifying.
“Hey, we won a championship so it’s just more to make me happy,” Davis said.
It is the first time that a lineman has earned the distinction since 1987, when David Wilson of Reseda, a tight end-linebacker, was player of the year.
Nineteen other area players were All-City selections.
