Northwestern officials are looking into whether any NCAA violations were committed when senior linebacker Geoff Schein took a camcorder from a Chicago television station to tape events surrounding the Wildcats’ trip to the Rose Bowl.

Northwestern cornerback Chris Martin was held out of both practices Wednesday because of a strained tendon in his right foot. To avoid additional injuries, Coach Gary Barnett said he would reduce the team’s workload to one practice per day, beginning today.

Barnett’s own workload, however, remains heavy. After the second session Wednesday, he planned to fly to San Diego for a recruiting visit. He has gone on several recruiting missions since his arrival.
