Oregon City (Ore.), ranked No. 1 nationally in the USA Today, beat an Orange County power for the second night in a row Thursday.
The Pioneers defeated Brea Olinda, 71-39, in the championship game of the Henderson (Nev.) Basic Lady Wolves Invitational.
Brea Olinda, ranked fourth in Orange County, dropped to 10-2. Oregon City is 7-0.
Oregon City beat the county's top-ranked team, Woodbridge, 75-54, in the semifinals.
Jennifer Saari, who had 11 points, made her first four shots for nine of Brea Olinda's first 13 points, and the Ladycats trailed, 19-13 after one quarter--as close as anyone has been to Oregon City at that point. But the Ladycats wilted against the Pioneers' press and Saari made only one of her final 10 shots. Stephanie Wettlin had a team-high 13 for Brea Olinda.
In the tournament's third-place game:
Woodbridge 55, Edison 32--Melanie Pearson and Krissy Duperron each scored 13 points to lead top-ranked Woodbridge (8-1) past Edison. During the second quarter, the Warriors extended a four-point lead into a 35-18 halftime lead.
Marie Philman had 15 points for Edison (7-3).
In a consolation game:
Los Alamitos 50, Bell Gardens 48--Molly Avery's offensive rebound and layup with four seconds left gave the Griffins a victory in the seventh-place game. Avery scored six points for Los Alamitos (8-4). Stacey Nichols led the Griffins with 14 points and seven rebounds.
In Santa Barbara tournament pool play:
Fountain Valley 78, Ojai Nordhoff 27--Jennifer Ludwicki scored 21 points and Nicole Strange had 20 for second-ranked Fountain Valley (9-1).
Ocean View 42, Atherton San Francisco Sacred Heart 38--Becky Fraser scored 21 points and had 16 rebounds as Ocean View beat the defending Division I state champions.
In a nonleague game:
University 67, Irvine 50--Tied at the half, University outscored Irvine by 14 points in the third quarter to take the lead for good.
