COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : ACROSS THE NATION : Fiesta Bowl Tickets Found in Trash

It’s safe to say there’s a purse thief running around Omaha, Neb., who isn’t much of a sports fan.
One such thief dumped a load of purses, wallets, checkbooks and four Fiesta Bowl tickets--that’s right, four of the most desired tickets in the state--into a trash bin near downtown Omaha.
“I don’t know how they missed these--they’re like four gold bars,” Sgt. Barry DeJong said. “They probably got minimum cash from the purses, and the knuckleheads left behind tickets that would probably be worth $2,000 to a scalper.”
Top-ranked Nebraska will play No. 2 Florida Jan. 2 in the Fiesta Bowl at Tempe, Ariz.
The tickets, which DeJong said were in “pristine” condition, were found Sunday loose in the trash bin.
Police “have a pretty good idea” who owns the tickets, based on other items found with them, DeJong said. But getting the tickets back will require knowledge of seat numbers and stadium section, among other things.
