COLLEGE FOOTBALL BOWL REPORT : HOLIDAY BOWL : Homecoming for Wildcats’ Miller

Kansas State’s appearance in Friday’s Holiday Bowl will be a homecoming of sorts for quarterback Matt Miller, who graduated from Mt. Carmel High in 1990. Miller was an all-state player who threw for more than 2,300 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.

Also a top baseball prospect, Miller signed with Texas A&M; but transferred after two seasons when he lost the starting quarterback job.

He signed with Kansas State at the urging of his father, Les Miller, who is the former directing of scouting with the NFL’s Chargers. After backing up Chad May for a year, Miller took over this season and has passed for 2,043 yards and a school-record 22 touchdowns. He rushed for 309 yards and eight touchdowns.

For the first time in school history, Colorado State is appearing in a bowl game two years in a row. The Rams lost to Michigan, 24-14, in the Holiday Bowl last season.

This will be the sixth time Colorado State has played Kansas State, with the Wildcats holding a 4-1 series lead. This will be their first meeting since 1968, when Kansas State won, 21-0, in Manhattan, Kan.
