HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP : Canoga Park’s Harper Scores 38 to Gun Down Highland, 95-84

Junior guard Carlos Harper scored 38 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Canoga Park boys’ basketball team to a 95-84 quarterfinal victory Wednesday over Highland in the Hart tournament at Valencia High.

Canoga Park (9-2) also got 20 points from Anthony Ellison and 18 points and 12 rebounds from Aaron Lasley.

John Burrell scored 25 points for Highland (6-6).

In other Hart tournament quarterfinal games:

Simi Valley 67, Beverly Hills 52--Senior center Pero Vasiljevic had 30 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the Pioneers.

Scott Blough scored 16 points and Rod MacLean added 14 for Simi Valley (8-1).

Beverly Hills (7-2) knocked a 15-point deficit down to 56-50 with 3 minutes 36 seconds to play, but the Pioneers scored the next 11 points to secure the victory.

Antelope Valley 57, Notre Dame 45--Junior forward Le’tre Kelly had 10 points and 17 rebounds for Antelope Valley (9-3).

Brett Henry led Notre Dame (6-6) with 15 points, all on three-point baskets.

Hart 78, North Hollywood 68--Junior forward Cory Johnson scored 28 points, and three other players also posted double figures for Hart (9-3). Junior center Shannon Johnson scored 30 points for North Hollywood (3-8).

Littlerock 70, Glendale 57--Bronson Pitts scored 27 points to lead the Lobos (4-6) in a consolation game. Glendale (3-9) got 23 points from Ohmid Rahimi.

Palmdale 74, Bakersfield West 50--Kevin Miller scored all six of his points in a 12-0 run by Palmdale at the start of the third quarter in a consolation game. Markus Carr led Palmdale (8-5) with 23 points.

VENTURA

Westlake 89, Saugus 63--Jason Gaines had 24 points and six steals, and Steve Aylsworth added 21 points and 10 assists for the Warriors (7-2) in a first-round game. Jake Stewart added 20 points.

Channel Islands 84, Crespi 57--Charles Merricks had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Raiders (8-1). O.J. Thomas added 16 points and eight assists.

Ron Quarterman scored 14 points for Crespi (4-6).

SANTA PAULA

Newbury Park 82, Morro Bay 68--Jim Newton had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Daniel Bobik had 19 points and seven assists for the Panthers (4-7) in a first-round game.

Oak Park 69, Oxnard 64--Senior Vaughn Corley scored 20 points, all in the second half, and Randy Gastwirt added 17 for the Eagles (7-3).

Danny Sweeney led Oxnard with 18 points.

BIRMINGHAM

Kennedy 55, El Camino Real 51--Waking Bailey and Michael Calloway each had 11 points for Kennedy (7-3) in a first-round game. Cameron Henderson scored 32 for El Camino Real.

Grant 61, Galileo 47--Donald Patterson had 25 points and Freddy Ramirez scored 18 to lead the Lancers (4-6).

OTHERS

Burbank 46, St. John Bosco 45--Don Allado had 14 points to lead the Bulldogs (6-5) in a consolation game of the Artesia tournament. St. John Bosco standout Schea Cotton did not play because of an injured thumb.

Cleveland 67, Poly 38--Derrick McGhee scored 15 points and Donald Holt added 14 for the Cavaliers (6-5) in a quarterfinal game of the Eagle Rock tournament.

Esperanza 65, Santa Clara 63--Lohnie Tape sank two free throws in overtime for Esperanza (12-1) in the second round of the Orange tournament. Adam Lopez had 22 points for Santa Clara (8-3).

Montclair Prep 67, Marshall 56--Anwawn Jones had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Akil Anderson added 12 points for the Mounties (10-3) in the second round of the La Salle tournament.

GIRLS

Buena 69, Palo Alto 34--The Bulldogs (5-0), ranked No. 1 in The Times’ regional poll, forced 31 turnovers in the first round of the Archbishop Mitty tournament in San Jose.

Ebony Conley had 15 points and 10 steals, and Christie Erickson added 16 points.

North Hollywood 63, Fillmore 54--Liset Maya had 20 points and 10 rebounds for North Hollywood (6-3) in a second-round game of the Bell-Jeff tournament. Samantha Fargeon added 11 points and a career-high 20 rebounds.

Julie Arundell had 24 points for the Flashes (11-2).
