BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Katella Wins Tournament in Overtime

Tournament co-MVPs Jacy Armbruster and Carlos Romero helped Katella win its own championship as the Knights defeated Torrance Bishop Montgomery, 54-52, in overtime in the final game of the Katella Klassic Friday night at Katella High.

Armbruster scored 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Romero added 18 points and seven assists for Katella (12-2).

In the third-place game, Savanna rallied from an early 17-point deficit, but couldn’t keep up in the fourth quarter, falling to Los Angeles Jordan, 86-79. Enele Boone and Sam Balos each scored 26 points for the Raiders.

Savanna led, 63-57, after the third quarter.

In the Brea Olinda tournament:

Brea Olinda 84, La Mirada 50--Matt Bodiford scored 22 points to help Brea Olinda (12-1) advance to today’s final against San Diego Rancho Buena Vista. Eric Repp added 17 points and John Heredia had 16 for the Wildcats.

Mountain View St. Francis 69, Rancho Alamitos 61--John Frank scored 16 points for Rancho Alamitos (3-9) in the fifth-place game.

In the Canyon tournament:

Magnolia 73, Costa Mesa 56--Mister McKinney scored 25 points for Magnolia (6-9) in a consolation game. Mike Montoya had 23 for Costa Mesa.

Whittier Christian 71, Cerritos Whitney 44--John Stoa scored 30 points to lead Whittier Christian (3-11) in a consolation game. The Heralds play Bolsa Grande at 10 a.m. today.

In the Coast Classic tournament:

Corona del Mar 72, Glendale Hoover 59--Brian Coleman scored 20 points and Adam Klinke added 17 as Corona del Mar (8-5) advanced to today’s championship game against Bellflower. The Sea Kings made 31 of 42 free throws.

In the Lincoln (Neb.) boys’ basketball tournament:

East Lincoln (Neb.) 62, Santa Margarita 61--East Lincoln made a pair of free throws with nine seconds remaining and Santa Margarita missed at the buzzer. Allen Krist had 16 points and 13 rebounds and Scott Balo had 15 points for the seventh-ranked Eagles (9-3).

In the Mountain View St. Francis boys’ basketball tournament:

University 86, San Luis Obispo 72--Ryan Schachter scored 24 points, including four three-pointers, and Dan DeGrood added 17 points for University (6-6) in the consolation semifinals.

In the Nogalas tournament:

San Clemente 64, Rowland Heights Rowland 58--A close game to the end, Jan Tatala was the key to San Clemente’s third-place victory scoring 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Tatala, along with teammate Eli Engle, were named all-tournament. San Clemente is 10-5.

In the San Diego Prep Classic:

Carmichael Jesuit 65, Mission Viejo 56--Gabe Burt scored 20 points for Mission Viejo (12-3) in a consolation game.
